Have You Made Plans For New Year’s Day?

The California State Parks organization celebrates its Sesquicentennial in 2014.

Anything Is Possible Travel - Point Lobos State Natural ReserveIn honor of this important milestone, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve will be participating in America’s State Parks First Day Hikes on January 1, 2014.

From a letter from the California State Parks:

The New Year is just around the corner, and the National Association of State Parks Directors has asked us once again to participate in the annual America’s State Parks First Day Hikes.  The Hikes are held on January 1st, and are intended to promote not only healthy lifestyles, but also a connection to the outdoors. This year, your participation is especially important given the 150th Anniversary.  We are using the First Day Hikes as a “150th Legacy Project”, or a way to engage our local audiences, and also raise awareness on the commemoration.

Last year, all 50 states participated and hosted over 22,000 people in over 400 different hikes, tours and/or walks in state parks across the country.  California also participated, and turnout was very positive.

This is an amazing opportunity for our Parks to participate in a national event, and highlight what we are doing in California.  We would like to know if your park will be hosting an event, so that the information can be posted on the America’s State Parks website, as well as our own.

Point Lobos is planning a very special celebration on January 1st, 2014, including the following programs, all of which are designed for visitors of all abilities: Easy Access Adventure Program; Mobile Interpretive Van Program (MINT); and
Scoping Program.

The event will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Sea Lion Point Trail in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve.

Please contact Melissa or Alex (see below) with any questions you might have, and also let them know that you’re interested in attending this special celebration. I hope to see you there!
